Black Wolf, Yellowstone, near Sough Creek, May 2011.
"Like neither saviors nor infidels but simply (or not so simply) like wolves, they returned to their home, bringing great color and breathing a life-force that some, in an upside-down world, view as destructive—as if we have become so estranged that we can no longer really tell one from the other. In this regard, the wolves are instructors, and in this regard, we are watching them with fascination, with our senses as well as our returning knowledge... —re-engaged and keenly alert."

  1. I love you how you stated that "we love or fear the wild to death." Hauntingly true, huh? Your photos are fantastic! I agree with every word you've written so far. I'll look forward to more.

  2. As many times as I've ruminated on this same dominance relationship, I've never before thought to "take the bear heads and hides deep into the forest and return them to a sacred place ..." The power of those words will live with me, Trish, every time I find myself in a space like this. I am in awe of this series and the way in which you've presented it. It's left me changed in spirit.
